Customized Head Injury Program (CHIP)
Back in Motion’s Customized Head Injury Program (CHIP) is
focused on early intervention services—including
assessment
and treatment—for people who have sustained mild to moderate
brain injuries or illnesses. Helping clients to understand
their injury, maximize their function, and return to work
are our goals. The program is composed of interventions
that address the following:
- Functional
deficits
resulting in an inability to return to work
- Physical
impairments
as a result of neurological injury
- Cognitive
deficits,
fatigue, and behavioural/personality changes
- Medical
issues
associated with the injury or illness, such as
musculoskeletal, neurological, vestibular, and/or
substance abuse
- Clients’
understanding of their head injury and the healing
process

Program Description
Interdisciplinary
Treatment
Services
Interdisciplinary Treatment Services involve a
clinic-based active program,
with
services tailored to each client’s condition. The
program includes some or
all of
the following:
- Injury
specific
and general exercise programs for musculoskeletal injury
and overall conditioning
- Vestibular
physical
therapy treatment to improve balance and dizziness
- Work
simulation
programs to increase tolerance for vocational activities
- Individual
cognitive
training to establish appropriate compensatory
strategies
- Counselling
sessions
to cope with emotional and behavioural sequelae of
injury
- Neuropsychological
sessions
to
provide
ongoing education on head injury and recovery
- Group
education
and relaxation sessions
- A
job site visit to determine job demands, provide job
coaching, and explore return to work opportunities
- Return
to Work Monitoring
- Medical
Follow-up
as needed

Services Plan (MSP) of British Columbia. Approved third
