The Workplace First consulting team helps employers develop and implement strategies to reduce the negative impacts of disability and illness on employers and employees.
This “audit” determines the strengths and weaknesses of an organization’s disability prevention systems and processes. The needs analysis and systems review is the essential first step in developing the most appropriate and effective program. We will evaluate overall objectives, available resources, culture, in-house systems, and more. Where appropriate, Workplace First evaluates the company’s readiness and helps prepare for the “return to work management program” audit
as described by WorksafeBC’s Partners in Injury and Disability Prevention (Certificate of Recognition) program. (www.worksafebc.com)
Based on the Needs Analysis, Workplace First works collaboratively with organizations to develop the most effective and appropriate disability
management guidelines. A disability prevention manual is developed to help ensure all stakeholders know and understand their roles and responsibilities, employees are treated fairly, a communication plan is in place, and the processes
of the program are facilitated effectively.
As a preventative strategy, Workplace First will travel to worksites to provide employees with customized, educational workshops or wellness sessions. All workshops are interactive and include handouts and other relevant materials.
When a worker has been or will be away from work due to injury or sickness (including mental health absences), many employers have no idea what to do.
In fact, most don’t have the expertise, time, or objectivity to handle important
and sensitive stay at work or return to work planning. Back in Motion has qualified professional staff (occupational therapists, physicians, psychologists, and kinesiologists) to provide the best services possible to facilitate a durable
return to work.
A Job Demands Analysis (JDA) defines the characteristics of physical work. These may include hours of specific activities, loads of lifting and carrying, walking, standing, and more. JDAs are used for a variety of reasons, including prevention, systems design and to return to work planning. Matching a worker’s functional capacity to a job’s physical demands, the Workplace First team provides pre-placement screening, and identifies ergonomic risk factors, work conditioning goals, and accommodations after an injury or illness. Qualified Occupational Therapists and kinesiologists perform JDAs at the worksite.
Employers can access any of the customized active rehabilitation and comprehensive assessment services for their staff. Please refer to Back in Motion’s treatment and assessment services.
